Interior Design Tips And Dining

Interior Design, is a major focal point in each room. It could be a large window or a painting or a piece of interesting art. In your living room, arrange your furniture around a focal point. Put your biggest piece of furniture first (like the couch) and then continue with the small pieces of furniture to accent pieces.

● Consider the size of your room when you buy furniture. Do not buy oversized pieces if your room is not so great. It will make your room feel small and cramped. And do not buy furniture tops, if your ceiling is low, they will make the ceiling seem lower. Visit the websites for sets of ideas visiondecor dining room and furniture for ideas and prices.

● In addition, the type, color and style of your soil should be considered in relation to the design style and size of the room. If the room is quite small, do not choose large floor with bold designs, as it will be the smallest room. Consider soil type tile, hardwood and heavy for the types of living room, if you expect heavy traffic in these areas.

● Many of us Filipinos are buying furniture stay "set" with a sofa, two matching side chairs, matching coffee and side tables. To be different, do not match the side chairs. Self-decoration, it is more in vogue is the style of different pieces to assemble a modern sofa with classic or antique side chairs and tables in various styles.

● If you put several picture frames on the walls. Its a good idea to group them by theme and place them inside an imaginary part. That may be the focal point of the room.

● Before you buy a set dining room, take a good look at your space. Make sure you have plenty of space to walk to lunch, even if all seats are occupied. The interior has a lot to do with ergonometrics, not only in appearance. We Filipinos have a tendency to buy bigger dining sets in our space can accommodate, and push the other side of the table against the wall.

● If your living room and dining room are in the same room, you can use a different floor of the dining room to define space, living space. Or you can put a rug on your dining table for the definition. A screen self is another good option.

● Avoid using fluorescent (white) lighting in the living room and dining room. Food looks more inviting under incandescent (yellow) and peoples complexion too look better under yellow light. But if you really want to use the fluorescent light, combined with light yellow and white, at the same time.

● If you plan to put a chandelier above your dining table, not to place so high. Low is 3-4 meters from the table.

● Apart from your direct light source on the dining table (a chandelier, for example), add some pin lights around the room and a dimmer to make your environment more pleasing to the eye. Do the same with your room.

● It good to put the images of the family living room, but do not place so much, especially in school diplomas and awards. Are better for the den or bedroom.

New Years Arrangements and the Stare Down

I look out the window and not much of anything is blooming right now, except for my Camellia bushes. Yesterday I decided to cut a few and scatter them throughout the house.

For a festive look that didnt scream Christmas and more like New Years, I added the stems to a few mercury glass candle holders that I got at Garden Ridge Pottery for next to nothing, and placed them on top of a mirror with a few glass balls sprinkled around.
For an extra touch of whimsy I added these silver curly sticks ( I have no idea what you call them) that I got in the dried floral section of Hobby Lobby.
I love seeing the pops of pink especially with all of this dreary, rainy, cold weather we have been having.
I know its a winter bloom, but it just screams Spring to me....
but not so fast.
I look in the other room and not only is the Christmas tree staring at me ready to come down, but also the dog and the new pony are in a stare down of their own.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas Day.

Grateful for~
wonderful 2 weeks with my mom

Railing and baluster ideas Deckorators

Hello, For the next few posts we are going to talk about different railing and baluster products and ideas.

For alot of our railing projects we use Deckorators balusters. Usually the classic 26" balusters, here in the picture you can see the 3/4 round baluster used with a composite 2x4 railing.

The connection to the top and bottom rail is done with either a standard baluster connector, or a designer baluster connector. You can also drill out the top and bottom rails to receive the 3/4 round baluster.

Standard baluster connector

                                                                 Designer baluster connector

The Deckorators classic 3/4 round 26" balusters run about $1.60 per baluster, in comparison a treated 2x2x32 runs about $1.00 per baluster and a cedar 2x2x32 is about a $1.35

So for a typical 400 sq ft treated wood deck with railings the added costs would only be about $175
and on a cedar deck it would only add about $50. On composite deck railing you actually save money
 over composite 2x2s

The labor time to install is a little more than just nailing on pre-cut 2x2s . We probably average a couple more hours per deck using the metal balsuters and connectors. We have a jig for the layout of the balsters and the jig holds the connectors in place to screw down to the rails. We start by finding the center point of each railing section - between rail post. We then layout the centers of the baluster at 4.5" or sometimes 4 1/4" on center depending on the distance between the posts, and we usually stay about 2" away from the ends of a rail section.
Here you can see the pre-drilling and attachment method used in composite and hardwoods

Finished cedar wood rails with the metal balusters

Treated Wood railings with metal balusters

Keep in mind that the big benifit of the metal balutsers is that they do not require painting or staining like a wood baluster. One of the worst parts of staining a deck is staining the balusters
Deckorators are  - powder coated aluminum with a lifetime warranty

Deckorators has many other differents styles of metal balusters.
My personal favorite is

                                                                 The  Estate (square)
Which is a little larger looking and I think it gives  richer look. I personally think the estate baluster are easier to install also. In the picture you see a 2x4 composite railing with Estate balusters in a bronze color with diamond pattern basket layout.

                                                                                     The Architectural

Scenic  (glass)

Deckorators has a some different accessories that are nice options.

Here some of their baluster accesories

Deckorators also has a nice line of post caps, post covers, and post skirts

Choosing Color and Decorating your home For Space

If your house is small / tiny, it helps you choose paint colors bright or light colored. Because the bright colors that will give the impression of clean, airy and spacious. Tatapi to remember is, the emphasis is to use bright colors are best applied to public spaces that are functionally dperuntukkan for something common, such as living room, family room, etc..

Every house needs a touch of intimacy and warmth that is very high, because the place is going to happen social interaction, family relationships are full of intimacy and warmth of its inhabitants.

The so-called public spaces are on a building is usually the spaces with users of space activities that are routine and uncertain. Users also are fixed space (according to the duties and functions), so that the necessary facilities will be standard both size and shape, such as schools, hospitals, saki, and others similar. Also, for practical and economical.

Imagine if the residence is treated the same as we treat the spaces of a general nature earlier. All walls painted the same color (eg white), all furniture made of metal or plastic for easy cleaning, weather-resistant, heat resistant and not easily damaged. Kok was like being in a hospital huh? Want a practical, economical, effective but not human.

Well, because home is where the inhabitants live off all the physical fatigue, thoughts and emotions then of course the things that will affect the fatigue-fatigue above must be eliminated.

Usually the forms of furniture that is too stiff, hard and monotonous will make the spaces in the residence to be memorable stiff. So you should not be placed in the house (unless it wants to have a house with rooms that reflect the arrogance and keep a distance with his guest). Select only the forms of material made from natural materials (wood, stone, cloth, etc.). Apalagai chairs in the living room or family room is not necessarily the same shape, can be several forms and materials are selected and placed in the living room, as long as there remains the unifying elements that make a stay in harmony / harmonious with the overall space.

Back again to the matter of choosing the color, is fine white vote to give the impression of vast, bright, and clean, but some are more human touch that will make an appearance space seem more intimate and touching. For example, choosing colors for the seat upholstery, decorative pillows, curtains, tablecloths, table covers, lamp armature, carpet or floor coatings, and others.

As for private spaces, you can experiment with colors you like. For example, you can not impose to dye your room or your children with bright colors which, not necessarily because they like it. Pick a color they like, but you also must be smart not to use colors which "shade" as the color purple because it will make their willingness to learn to be reduced.

Furthermore, in terms of choosing complementary accessories room, choose accessories that you and or your children like but do not jeopardize your safety and they, for example motives simple but attractive, such as flowers, geometric patterns with the pattern size is small. Avoid choosing furniture with sharp corners, etc.

A few thoughts on decking products and warranties

CsayaPOSITE DECKING

Hello ... We met recently with the new sales rep from GAF/ELK.
GAF has just recently purchased Correct Deck CX, which has been one of our favorite composite decking choices. Correct Deck was the innovator in the cap layer composite. Which Fiberon and Trex have recently come out with similar cap layer composites.
Timber Tech is also going to come out with a cap layer composite product.

The Correct Deck CX is a co-extrusion cap layer composite which covers over the first generation composite (inside the cap layer), which is a wood 60%/plastic 40% mixture.

FIRST GENERATION CsayaPOSITES

First generation composite products promised allot "less maintenance" then the treated / cedar wood decking, that was the standard choice for deck materials. The main promise was that the first generation composite products did not need to be stained. The staining process of a wood deck can be allot of work and time consuming. So the composite products started to catch on, Trex was the first composite on the decking market. There was problems though, the wood fiber / plastic mixture weathered still , Severe fading from sun exposure , mold became a big problem, and scratching, and staining became issues also.

So for having the promise of - not having to stain the deck, you gained a bunch more bad side effects. Keep in mind that in different climates of the country and even different areas of a site where a deck is built can increase or decrease the issues with the first generation composites. We have done some first generation composite decks that still look pretty good after 10 years or more and some that do not look as good. In Michigan where we are, the sun exposure time, the height of the deck, and the moisture that is in the area of the deck, can be the main factors in problem issues with the first generation composites. If the deck is in full sun 24/7 generally western or southern exposure you will get allot of fading of the color on first generation composites, But this will help with moisture/mold growth problems. The height of the deck is also a big factor, generally you do not want a deck built, wood/composite/PVC any lower than twelve inches in height, to the finish floor. The decking needs to dry out and breath. If your patio, porch or deck area is lower than twelve inches, I would recommend going with a hardscape material. Stamped concrete or brick pavers. The moisture issue, is the last of the three problem areas we see, sprinkler system add allot of water to a patio, porch or deck area. They also add allot of water to the water table in the ground which will become an issue in the winter time with frost heave. Also allot of overhanging trees can keep the deck from drying out which will promote mold growth. Mold growth generally comes from wet wood products that stay wet for long periods of time and start to rot, which breeds mold.

HEIGHT, SUN EXPOSURE, MOISTURE

If you keep those three main factors in mind you can still have good success with a first generation composite product.

If you have a deck or patio area that would fall into one of those problem areas. I would recommend the second generation composites or PVC decking choices.

SECOND GENERATION CsayaPOSITES - CAP LAYER/PVC

This get us back to the Correct Deck CX product which again was bought out by GAF/ELK

GAF/ELK is one of the largest roofing material manufactures in the world and they have been in business for over a hundred years. So they have allot of stability which is always nice.
They have come out with very unique contractor certifications and warranty programs based off of there roofing products. Which everyone knows about all the issues that can challenge a roofing product, yet they still offer these lifetime warranties on their roofing systems.

Lifetime labor and material warranty

The new Correct Deck CX GAF/ELK product will offer a lifetime warranty with both labor and materials covered. I have never heard of the labor being covered, which is a strong security to a homeowner. Trex had some issues awhile back with defective materials that decayed in a year or two and they covered the materials but the homeowner was stuck with paying the contractor to remove and replace the defective product. With the cost to upgrade to a composite or pvc product in the first place, a life time labor and material warranty is a peace of mind.

Thank You, for reading .. We will get more into the second generation composites/pvc and the new products in decks for the 2010 season coming up in the next few days.

Some Common Kitchen Design Problems and their Solutions

Having a poor kitchen design may not serve the purpose and can instead make cooking a frustrating activity. If proper solutions are incorporated in the kitchen designing or remodeling stage, it may minimize some of the common problems.

The followings are some of the common kitchen design problems and their probable solutions.

# Lack of storage space
Storage space is so important for any kitchen. It must be incorporated in design from the initial stage. For example, when buying kitchen cabinets, and other kitchen interior design accessories, make sure that you always keep the space issue in mind. If the countertop is small, it can make your worktop cluttered easily.

Cabinets need to be big enough and maximize on the use of space. Vertical and horizontal space need to be used properly. This is done when designing racks, cabinets, and trays.

# Lack of workflow
Most kitchens are poorly planned, sometimes big distance between refrigerator, the sinks and the oven. The stove may be very far from the rest of the kitchen and this makes work flow difficult.
To solve this, your kitchen layout needs to be the one that provide logical workflows that can allow you to work easily. In addition, you also need the spacious aisle to avoid unnecessary movements.
# Poor ventilation
If the ventilation system is not ok, a lot of greases and odors find way in the kitchen walls, furniture and may spread to the rest of the areas. This may be minimized by incorporate a high quality kitchen range hood with respect to the right position in order to achieve the optimum performance.

# Lack of proper lighting
Apart from the overall lighting system at the center, you may need to have additional light boxes at specific points such as cooking area and cabinet. Good lighting system in the kitchen makes work easier.

# Fire safety
The kitchen is one place prone to fire hazard and caution should be taken. Common problem is that people do not put fire extinguisher in place. Fire blankets are also important in this case. If you can, you may install fire sensors to alert danger in case of fire outbreak.

Kitchen design problems are commonly found in many homes. These problems can be avoided easily to give a true reflection of lifestyle. Once the proper resolution is done, your new kitchen will help you make the most of space as well as save your time and even energy.
